The Internet Essentials plan is Comcast’s $9.95 per month (plus tax, of course) internet service provided to qualifying low-income households eligible for assistance from programs like SNAP, Medicaid, or WIC. Faster access for the same price should be a relief for many families struggling to adapt to having work, school, and entertainment largely shifted to the internet during the pandemic. It does so by running multiple consecutive tests that analyze different aspects of your internet connection, namely ping (latency), download speed, and upload speed. Upload speeds are also being increased from 3Mbps to 5Mbps. An internet speed test measures the connection speed and quality of your connected device to the internet. The service, which currently runs at 25Mbps, will be automatically upgraded to 50Mbps without requiring additional fees or action from customers.

Xfinity caps all cable internet plans at 1,000 GB or 1 TB. The plan costs 299.95 per month and requires a two-year agreement. In addition to delivering faster speeds, Comcast provides Xfinity Internet customers: This plan provides download speeds of up to 2,000Mbps. “Faster speeds will give our customers added capacity to power all their connected devices, in addition to the cybersecurity protection, in-home Wi-Fi controls, and wall-to-wall Wi-Fi coverage Comcast already provides,” said Jason Gumbs, Comcast’s Regional SVP, said in the release.
